1. Tournament Format
• Type: Mixed Doubles
• Bracket: Single Elimination
• Game Length: Best 2 out of 3 games, each game played to 11 points, win by 2.
• Seeding: Teams will be seeded on tournament day by drawing numbers.
• Advancement: Winners of each match advance to the next round, losers are eliminated from the tournament.
2. Teams
• Composition: Each team must consist of one male and one female player.
• Substitutions: Substitutions are not allowed during the tournament once the match has started.
• Team Name: Teams should provide a team name at the time of registration. This will be used for the tournament bracket and schedule.
• Team Limit: 8 teams per division. Registration will open to current C.B. Huss Rec Center members on March 14, 2025 and to the public on April 3, 2025.
• Team Withdrawals: If your team decides to withdraw from the tournament, please notify us by April 28, 2025 so players can be moved off the waitlist.
3. Court & Equipment
• Court Size: Standard pickleball court dimensions (20 feet by 44 feet for doubles).
• Net Height: 36 inches at the sidelines and 34 inches at the center.
• Pickleballs: Official pickleballs will be provided by the tournament organizers.
• Paddles: Players must use standard pickleball paddles. Personal paddles are allowed.
4. Game Rules
• Starting the Game: The game starts with the higher seed receiving the first serve.
• Serve:
o The server must serve underhand from behind the baseline.
o The serve must land in the opponent’s diagonal service box.
o Only one fault per serve is allowed. If the server faults twice, the service switches to the opposing team.
o Double Bounce Rule: The ball must bounce once on each side before players can hit the ball out of the air.
• Scoring:
o Points: Points are scored only by the serving team.
o Game Points: A game is won when a team reaches 11 points, with a 2-point minimum lead. If the score reaches 10-10, teams must continue to play until one team has a 2-point lead.
o Side-Outs: After a side-out, the other team serves. The serving team must switch sides after each game.
5. Player Conduct
• Sportsmanship: All players are expected to display good sportsmanship and respect for opponents, staff, and spectators.
• Behavior: Any aggressive behavior or unsportsmanlike conduct may result in disqualification from the tournament.
• Line Calls: Players are responsible for calling their own games, including making line calls and ensuring fair play throughout the match.
6. Warm-Ups
• Warm-Up: Teams will be allowed a 5-minute warm-up period before each match.
7. Tiebreakers
• Tiebreaker for Games: If a match is tied 1-1 in games, a tiebreaker game to 11 points will be played. In the tiebreaker, teams must alternate serving every 2 points.
8. Eligibility
• Age Groups: Players must meet the age requirements as specified by the tournament organizers.
9. Medical Timeouts
• Injury Timeouts: If a player is injured during a match, they are allowed a medical timeout of up to 5 minutes. Only one medical timeout is allowed per match per team.
• Disqualification for Injury: If a player cannot continue due to injury, their team will forfeit the match.
10. Prize & Awards
• Prizes: Awards will be awarded to the top 2 teams in the tournament.
